Goals
To
raise the consciousness of civil society about the need
for changes in social and cultural attitudes concerning
women, and to increase public involvement in this issue,
especially by groups that work with sexual and reproductive
health, education, human rights, communications media, and
legislators.
To
increase ethico-religious reflection from an ecumenical
perspective. To create public discussions, in society as
a whole as well as within the Church, on issues related
to sexuality, human reproduction, and religion.
To
influence society to recognize women's right to freely choose
motherhood, with the goal of reducing the incidence of abortion
and maternal mortality.
To
broaden the debate over the voluntary termination of pregnancy,
so as to include ethical, medical, and legal aspects, and
to work toward the decriminalization and legalization of
abortion.
To
pressure the Brazilian government to comply with commitments
it made during world conferences organized by the United
Nations in Cairo (1994) and in Beijing (1995).
To
implement sex education programs oriented toward sexual
and reproductive health.
To
work toward the implementation of laws, public policies
and health services that are accessible to all women, especially
poor women, effectively ensuring full reproductive and sexual
health.
